Course Objective:
This course provides instructional training and practicum experience whereby the student participants will attain skills and demonstrate competence that meets pre-established criteria to become eligible for certification as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist (OHC).
Course Content Includes:
- Anatomy & physiology of the ear
- Care & calibration of equipment
- Counseling of employees
- Hearing protection: selection & fit
- Pure tone audiometry practicum
- Record keeping/managing a HCP
- Physics of sound/effects of noise
- Employee education/training
Course Title:
Occupational Hearing Conservation (Initial / Recertification)
These courses are approved by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC). The Initial Certification course is 20 hours. Certification must be renewed every 5 years. The Re-certification course is 8 hours.
Course Director:
Kirsten R. McCall, Au. D., CCC-A
Ms. McCall is a Doctor of Audiology. She became a CAOHC-certified Course Director in 1994 and is recognized by CAOHC as one of the “Top 25 Most Active Course Directors.” Ms. McCall was also nominated for the 2005-2006 “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.”
Continuing Education:
These courses are approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 11576, for 20 Contact Hours (8 Contact Hours for Re-Certification Courses).

Payment:
The course fee is due two weeks prior to the course start date. Seven day advance notification of cancellations or withdrawals is expected to avoid possible monetary penalty; naming a substitute is acceptable.
